Call for Artist Submissions
Macrobert Arts Centre Christmas Exhibition –
Gift an Affordable Artwork this Christmas
Macrobert Arts Centre Christmas Exhibition
Our exhibition space, the Arthouse, hosts both professional and amateur artworks throughout the year. This Christmas we’d like to try something new by hosting an exhibition that showcases the work of five or six artists and offers our audiences opportunities to purchase original Christmas gifts.
Christmas is a busy time at Macrobert Arts Centre and we have significant footfall for our two Christmas shows. We’d like to take advantage of this to increase the number of visitors to our venue who are viewing and purchasing original artwork.
Who Can Apply?
We’d like to receive submissions from independent practitioners with original, high quality work to sell.
We require applicants to:
[1] have work that can be hung securely on our gallery wall space [no cabinets or tables will be available]
[2] provide between 6 and 10 pieces for display in late October 2015 [and a further 6 to 10 pieces to be held by Macrobert Arts Centre for exhibition replenishment [as pieces sell, we anticipate that they’ll be taken away]]
[3] artwork should be priced to sell, we’d suggest a ceiling of £200.00
[4] artwork does not need to have a seasonal or Christmas theme
Applicant Information
The exhibition dates are Monday 19 October 2015 – Sunday 3 January 2016. Our preferred date for take down and collection is Monday 4th January 2016. We anticipate that the exhibition will be open daily from 10.00am to 9.00pm [with some exceptions for seasonal closures].
Macrobert Arts Centre marketing team will carry out marketing and promotional activity to support and build the success of the exhibition, including flyer distribution, web content and a social media campaign.
Successful artists are required to work with the Macrobert Arts Centre team to ensure that pricing of pieces is managed efficiently and effectively.
Payment for artwork will be processed by Macrobert Arts Centre box office. Macrobert will retain a 20% commission rate on all sales.
There will be no charge to exhibit but successful artists are expected to work together to hang their work. A Macrobert Arts Centre technician will be on hand to assist during the hanging of your exhibition. Unless otherwise agreed you should supply any tools and hanging materials. Macrobert Arts Centre will determine which space within Arthouse is allocated to which artist.
The space is unsupervised and we do have children using the venue on a regular basis who often explore and play unsupervised in the Arthouse. We ask that you consider the health and safety implications of anything within reach of small children as well as the possibility of your work being handled by them.
Macrobert Arts Centre cannot accept any liability for damage caused to artworks on display.
How to Apply:
To apply for a place at the exhibition please email [email protected] with
‘Macrobert Arts Centre Christmas Exhibition Application’ in the subject heading and include the following information:
- a brief introduction to your practice [one paragraph]
- information on the work you plan to sell, including price range
- 2 or 3 colour images of your work
The deadline for submissions is 12.00 on Wednesday 23 September 2015.
Selection Process
The selection of work will be undertaken by a panel of representatives from local arts organisations. Meeting the detailed criteria will form the basis of the selection process. We will also use of our collective experience of what sells, suitability for the venue, and the overall mix of makers to determine the best selection for the exhibition.
We will acknowledge receipt of your application via email. We aim to be in touch with the outcome of submissions by Wednesday 30 September 2015.
Successful applicants will be sent more detailed information about the event and invited to an initial venue meeting to meet key members of the Macrobert Arts Centre team.
