The hidden gem in the Dollar glen

If you have ever been to Dollar summer school then you don’t need us to tell you how excellent it is. Now in its 56th year it faces a crucial point in its history.  Unless they get enough participants signed up by the end of March it will be cancelled through lack of support.
It has relied on word of mouth in the past and has never had to go out and market itself. But times change.  So this year they are making a determined effort to promote the school.
Whether you are an absolute beginner or a professional artist Dollar Summer School has something for you.
Run by a team of dedicated art teachers in the superb setting of Dollar Academy Art Department  from 4-10 July it offers remarkable value for money at £265.

Temporary Hospital Corridor Commission in Falkirk

Forth Valley Open Studios and NHS Forth Valley are looking for a visual artist to create a large temporary work for the main public thoroughfare in Falkirk Community Hospital, to be part of Forth Valley Open Studios’ public sites programme in June.

The aim of the project is to dramatically alter the 60m long, newly painted space in an uplifting way, for the month of June.  The artist will be welcome to draw upon the current surroundings, the ex-infirmary’s history, the visitors and staff using the hospital, or simply pursue their own ideas in response to the space.

The work can be abstract, figurative, patterned, 2d or low relief and can be painted or glued directly onto the walls, as long as they can easily be returned to their original state after the project.  Practical, technical and logistical support will be provided by NHS Forth Valley and Open Studios.

We envisage this small project taking one week to design and produce, so it will suit someone who enjoys the immediacy of translating ideas into reality very quickly and is happy to live with the results for a short time!

The space is fully accessible. Fee £500, materials £100, travel and expenses £50.
