FVOS are hosting a series of fine art and craft workshops. The workshops will take place in various locations throughout the Forth Valley area.

Drawing Workshop

Saturday 25th May 2013

1pm-4pm

£22 for three hour course

The aim of this workshop is to introduce exciting and challenging approaches to drawing from the clothed model. We will look at both figure and portraiture using a variety of materials and methods which will improve visual awareness, attention to detail, spatial consciousness, scale, perspective, expressive qualities, and most importantly intuition. You will be encouraged to experiment within an enjoyable and supportive environment giving you the opportunity to explore your creative process.

The course is aimed at adults of any age, both beginners and the more advanced, who want to work directly from the clothed model. Participants will progress at their own pace in a friendly, relaxed and flexible class.

Tutor: Nicola Carberry

Nicola is a lecturer in Drawing and Painting at North Glasgow College and teaches at the Dollar Summer School.

Beginners’ Basketry Course

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd June 2013

10am-4pm each day

£90 for the weekend course

A two day course that is designed to give you a good grounding in the techniques of traditional basketry using willow. If you have made a basket before, this is a good refresher course. At the end of the course you will have made a beautiful, strong basket that you will love and can take home with you.

Tutor:

Catherine Davis has been teaching basketry for many years and will be passing on lots of information about willow growing and where to get tools and books for basketry.

Venue: Beaconhurst School, 52 Kenilworth Road, Bridge of Allan. FK9 4RR

Alastair R Ross

An Introduction to Sculpture

Saturday 1st June 2013, 1 – 2pm

Dr Alastair Ross is the Art Collection’s featured artist for Forth Valley Open Studios and an exhibition of his work will be on display in the Art Collection from 25th May to 31st July.  His talk will discuss his work and provide an introduction to sculpture.

Dr Alastair R Ross is one of the leading figurative sculptors in the U K.  He is a Fellow and past Vice-President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors (in 1989 he was awarded the Society’s Sir Otto Beit medal), an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy, an R.G.I. and an Hon. Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

His commissioned and exhibition works embrace a wide variety of artistic concepts, scales, media and contexts. Nonetheless, the human figure remains firmly at the core of his thinking and underpins all his sculptural output.

A former lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Dundee, he has also lectured in the USA and Malta.  He is represented in both public and private collections worldwide.

Drawing, Dance and Movement Workshop

Saturday 1st June 2013, 10am – 12pm

Cost £20 per person

As part of University’s events for Forth Valley Open Studios Greer Ralston will lead a drawing workshop exploring movement through dance. Paper and charcoal will be provided.  However, if you want to bring ink, watercolour or pastels you will be most welcome.  This workshop would suit all levels of ability.

Greer Ralston graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a B.A. Hons. in Fine Art. She has worked as a freelance artist for a number of years and has works in public and private collections in the UK and abroad, including those of international sportsmen and entrepreneurs.

The workshop will be followed by a free public lecture delivered by leading figurative sculptor Alastair Ross.  Places on the workshop are limited; to book a place please email [email protected]
