Fiona McGurk
Mixed media installation
59 Grasps: It’s ok; I’ll not let you go (2016)
Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Stirling Road, Larbert FK5 4WR
Ideas concerning accumulation, connection and context inform Fiona’s work.
Within a wide framework of approaches, painting and drawing continue to underpin her research and creative practice and the making of three-dimensional objects has become increasingly important.
Collecting the grasp shape of 59 health professionals, Fiona will create a site-sensitive, mixed media installation. Each grasp sculpture, a negative-space form, collectively a symbol of care, dignity, strength, and support.
After completing a BSc (hons) Chemistry, Fiona McGurk worked as a development chemist for 12 years before completing a BA (hons) Painting at Edinburgh College of Art in 2012.
Fiona has been the recipient of a number of awards including the RSA: New Contemporaries 2013 and The Andrew Grant Bequest Scholarship in 2012 and 2010. She has undertaken residencies nationally and internationally and exhibited widely in the UK and further afield.
