Inner Forth Landscape Initiative
Telling the Inner Forth Story
7 Beacons at various sites
The landscape of the Inner Forth is a work of art in itself, and like all the best works of art, there’s more to it than initially meets the eye. The Inner Forth Landscape Initiative (IFLI) aims to share some of the myriad natural, historic and cultural stories that are hidden in this landscape through this suite of installations that are being created throughout the Inner Forth. Seven ‘Beacons’ are being erected at key sites around the area, which use a combination of form, images and words to inspire visitors, and encourage them to explore this unique landscape atthe heart of Scotland.
Each beacon is also unique, from the many coloured steel archways at Fallin Bing to the ‘stone deckchair’ at Clackmannan Tower, and the ‘tunnel under the Forth’ at Bo’ness. They tell stories of miners and monarchs, saltpans and saltmarshes, geese and glaciers. Visit them all and in future you may look at the Inner Forth with new eyes.
Locations of the Beacons:
~ Bo’ness Foreshore
~ Kinneil Estate
~ Fallin Bing
~ Abbey Craig, Stirling
~ Alloa Harbour
~ Clackmannan Tower
~ Limekilns Pier
The Beacons are part of IFLI’s wider Telling the Inner Forth Story project.
There are also smaller installations called Markers at 12 sites, and a booklet to accompany the project, available to download from the IFLI website at
Works are scheduled for construction in June 2018.
‘Explore the Forth’ App highlights over 20 places around the Inner Forth that deserve a visit. Look out for the different locations of the Beacons as you navigate through the Forth Valley. Locations are detailed in the FVAB Brochure.
