About the Artist
Daphne Hamilton who trades as "derenz" enjoys the challenge of creativity in a shared studio. Inspired by the everyday, the studio contains work in slate, on tile, canvas, and leather. The challenge for her is to keep pushing the boundaries. She enjoys the benchwork involved in upcycling frames and the physical aspects of producing something to be enjoyed, including hand finished greetings cards.
A visit to a small holding in Fife led to the production of a variety of fowl painted on tile using alcohol inks, a product that keeps colours vibrant and has its own way of shifting pigment across glazed ceramic surfaces. A recent challenge has been the turning of waste leather products into insects, a work in progress. Painting large too keeps the adrenalin pumping and this has been made possibe because another artist shares the cost of the studio providing derenz with the opportunity to work in an affordable space. We welcome visitors so if you are in the area and want to be sure we are in, please text for a visit, otherwise take a chance and ring the derenz bell by the inner door at 6 Marcelle House between 10 and 4.
