About the Artist
Angus designers Tricia Griffin and April Black frequently exhibit with Michael Kay and Ros Macdonald. Tricia specialises in printed, dyed and mixed-media textiles using silk, merino wool, linens & cottons and using Japanese felting techniques. April, a recent graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone turns wood, and uses metal inlays to great decorative effect. She also produces individualised papercuts.
Patricia graduated in 2011 from Duncan of Jordanstone with a Bachelor of Design in Textiles. She specialises in printed, dyed and mixed-media textiles, using Japanese felting techniques to produce a uniquely colourful range of fashion and interior accessories.
She is inspired by the textures and structure of fabric, working in a wide range of natural fibres; silk, wool, linens and cottons. She has developed her own unique range of Nuno felt in fine chiffon silk and merino wool. Her colours reflect the north east coast of Scotland where she lives and works.
April is a 2016 graduate from DJCAD. Inspired by traditional craft she creates wood- turned vessels on her lathe, hand-finishing her pieces with pyrography influenced by the outdoors and her rural environment. She often inlays silver and copper into the surface of the wood to enhance the natural patterns created by the grain. Based in her workshop and studio on the outskirts of Dundee she also produces a range of unique and personalised papercut art. She collaborates with her clients to create individual handcut pieces e.g. family trees, wedding and birthday framed gifts.
Demonstrations of various aspects of their craft by April, Ros and Michael will occur at various times during the event. Check the A-board at the entrance to Bridgend for what's on and when.
