Pink route

Michael Kay + Ros Macdonald

Opening Times

About the Artist

Local jeweller and silversmith, Michael designs and makes contemporary, wearable jewellery in silver, gold and semi-precious stones. He frequently exhibits with Angus friends Tricia Griffin, April Black and Ros Macdonald.
Ros creates bold pieces of abstract naturalism in acrylic ink as well as woodcuts and linoprints featuring the seaside and birds.

Michael trained in Silversmithing and Jewellery Design at Edinburgh College of Art in the late 60s, gaining his diploma and a travelling scholarship in 1970. 37 years in art education followed, with his workshop on the side. He taught jewellery-making classes in Stirling, Monifieth and at the Dollar Summer School, and still gives lecture/demonstrations to the SWRI and other groups. In design he is indirectly influenced by both natural and mechanical forms, but at a simpler level is inspired by the basic design elements of shape, line, colour, tone, texture, pattern and form.

Ros's aim is to achieve bold, punchy pieces of abstract naturalism. She graduated in Display and Design in 1972 from DCC. She works mainly in acrylic ink and is inspired by the beauty of her native Angus, but loves the West coast. She tries to achieve an individual approach to her work and enjoys experimenting with textures and colour reflecting the seasons. She also has a quirky fun approach to her print work that often features the seaside and her garden birds. You can expect to find Ros working at some linocutting along with framed original art work; original mounted art; various print works and cards.
