About the Artist
I draw on my life experiences, my background, love of colour and nature. My decorative art is influenced by my walks in the countryside, the garden and the people I meet, places I visit, the photographs I take and sketches I make. I feel comfortable using a range of media as each different one allows me to express my artistic dexterity, hence interpreting the world around me in my work.
My art work that I have chosen to include in this year's 'Forth Valley Art Beat', provides me with one of the most effective ways as an artist to communicate my ideas, internal visions and my interpretation of life with the public and other artists. My work provides a glimpse inside the world as I view it, in all its colours and shapes and quirkiness. My art work is my colourful transposition of reality into realms of vivid colour and form. I try to interpret life in all its vivacity, and this often includes distortion and creative imagination. I start by creating a simple outline of the subject, introducing colour and shapes together, adding detail, imagery, icons and figures, responding to the art work as it develops, be it through the media of hand embroidery, machine embroidery, watercolours, papier mache or pastels. Patterns and colours, also an inspiration for me, found in nature, my walks in the countryside and life experiences are all sources of references I pull from to create my vivid, quirky and colourful interpretations of the world. I hope that the public are inspired with my work and are keen to view my interpretations of my world.
